Who doesn’t know him? The “Missile Man of India” and “People’s President” – Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam who has inspired hundreds of millions of life & provide dares to dream to many of us. But very rare know how much struggle was there behind his success and what failures he has to overcome.
By his early childhood, Kalam’s family had become poor due to family business failure and he sold newspapers to supplement his family’s income at an early age.
In his school years, Kalam had average grades .While Kalam was working on a senior class project, the Dean was dissatisfied with his lack of progress and threatened to revoke his scholarship unless the project was finished within the next three days. Fortunately, Kalam met the deadline.
His dearest dream was to become a fighter pilot but failed to realize the same when he got ninth position out of 25 candidates and was not recruited as only eight slots were available in the IAF (Indian Air Force).
“I had failed to realize my dream of becoming an air force pilot”, he writes in his book “My Journey: Transforming Dreams into Actions”. “It is only when we are faced with failure do we realize that these resources were always there within us. We only need to find them and move on with our lives,” says Mr. Kalam.I had failed to realize my dream of becoming an air force pilot - Abdul KalamClick To Tweet
But he showed everyone how to learn from each and every failure.
In 1960, kalam joined Aeronautical Development & became project director of India’s first Satellite vehicle in 1969. Further, Kalam played a major part in developing many missiles although the projects have been criticized for mismanagement and cost and time overruns. Further he played the role of Chief Scientific Advisor to Prime Minister of India & became country’s best known nuclear scientist. Finally seeing his contribution to nation, he was elected as 11th President of India & not only president but “people’s president” – the designation which described him as what he was.
This is what a failure can do & what a failure can become.
Abdul Kalam famously said: “when failure occurs, a leader should humbly own it and acknowledge it. When success comes, the leader should again have the humility to give credit to all the people who worked for it.”
He always believed in inspiring others & put in his whole life to make the life of others better than his own. Here is the one of the incredible speech of Dr. Abdul Kalam that he gave at SRM university:
With this inspiring speech, Let’s remember his incredible message ever:
“Where there is righteousness in the heart, there is beauty in the character. When there is beauty in the character, there is harmony in the home. When there is harmony in the home, there is order in the nation.” –A.P.J Abdul Kalam
What we learn from the incredible journey of A.P.J. Abdul Kalam?
APJ Abdul Kalam could not become fighter pilot which was his most cherished dream. But he moved on and later became cone of the greatest scientist of India. He did not stop there. In the later years, he became the most beloved president India has ever seen. That’s why he is not Just called “President of India” but “People’s President”
If the Abdul kalam would not have been failed to achieve his dream, he would have never come across such a high success and a role-model for millions.
